Since 1997, newspaper designers, publishers, IT professionals and editors from throughout the United States and Canada have attended sessions of the Institute of Newspaper Technology. The 2007 session of the Institute is scheduled for October 11-13, 2007. Classes will take place on campus at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Originally, the Institute was developed to help newspapers learn how to use the latest software applications to utilize full pagination. While classes related to pagination are still offered, the Institute has changed with the times in an effort to stay at the forefront of technology training in our industry. Instructors and topics offered at the October 2007 session of the Institute of Newspaper Technology include: - Lynn Grillo (Adobe): Creating Video (Flash) For Newspaper Websites - Tim Cole (Adobe): Basic and Advanced InDesign; Adobe InCopy Workflow - LIsa Griffin (Davis Consulting): Basic QuarkXPress; Adobe Illustrator - Rob Heller (Univ. of Tenn.): Photography for Designers; Combining Pictures With Sound For Newspaper Websites - Kevin Slimp (INT Director): Digital Journalism (Converging Media); Preflighting and Correcting Problem PDF Files - Davina Hicks / Tom Kelly (Quark): Advanced Creation & Collaboration Tools Using QuarkXPress; Moving Content to Flash & Web Output With Quark Interactive Designer - Karl Kuntz (Columbus Dispatch): Basic Photoshop; Advanced Photoshop - Kyle Thompson (Adobe): Introduction to Website Design Using Adobe Dreamweaver - Cathy Bandeko (MultiAd): Creating Newspaper Ads With Creator 8 In addition to classes, attendees will take part in a dinner and tour of the Knoxville News Sentinel facilities, followed by roundtable discussions with News Sentinel staff. Other events include meals sponsored by Adobe, Quark and MultiAd. This year's Institute Banquet, sponsored by Mediaspan, will take place during a riverboat ride on the Tennessee River. Early registrants are entitled to a $100 discount off registration fees. Register by June 28, 2007 to reduce Institute registration to $495. This covers all expenses for classes and materials.
