Morrison SoftDesign recently updated its signature product, FontDoctor, to version 5.5. FontDoctor is the industry standard software for font problem diagnosis and repair on the Mac platform. Employing a simple interface, FontDoctor quickly finds and eliminates font problems that can eventually lead to serious trouble. I tested the latest version on my Powerbook and learned that several of my printing predicaments were related to font illnesses. FontDoctor scans all your folders to locate and repair such problems as font ID conflicts, resource fork damage, font stye errors, corrupt fonts, missing font types and more. I learned that my computer contained more than 100 fonts with damaged resource forks. One was Zaph Dingbats, which never seemed to work quite right. Version 5.5 introduces a new feature called Font Mover, allowing users to view suitcase contents and move and copy between font suitcases. FontDoctor 5.5 supports Mac 8.6 through OS X. A free demo version can be downloaded at www.morrisonsoftdesign.com. Registration is $70 (US) / $97 (CAD) / $109 (AUD) for a single user license and $350 (US) / $485 (CAD) / $550 (AUD) for a site license. Version 5.5 is a free upgrade to registered users.
