RedEye Pro Gets the Red Out
RedEye Pro is a plug-in by Andromeda Software. Compatible with versions 6 and 7 of Photoshop - and available for both Mac and Windows - RedEye Pro is pretty self-explanatory. This plug-in helps Photoshop users get rid of red-eye in photos. While some cameras offer red-eye reduction as a feature, the problem tends to show up from time to time. Red-eye is caused by light reflected off the subject’s retina when a flash picture is taken in low light. My normal mode of correcting red-eye in Photoshop is to carefully select the area of the eye that is discolored and adjust the hue and saturation to obtain the desired effect. While this provides satisfactory results in most instances, there is always the problem of grabbing some of the magenta from skin surrounding the eye when using the magic wand or color range tool. RedEye Pro makes it quick and simple for the user to transform the red from the eye into a natural looking color. It’s as simple as selecting RedEye Pro from the Photoshop Filters menu, clicking on the red (or any other color) in the eye, and using a paintbrush or an oval selection tool to correct the discoloration.
For $39 US ($59 CAN / $65 AUD), this offering from Andromeda Software seems destined to create a lot of fans. Available from most catalogs or www.andromeda.com.
